A high magic role playing system focused on Improvisation, experimentation, and lateral thinking
Welcome to the first playtest version of Painted Myth! This game has already had a few iterations before this point, each one closer and closer to my goal of creating a system that allows for players and GMs to explore a magic rich world, and gives them the tools to create spells and magical disciplines that stretch their imaginations to the limit.
Painted Myth is, as its core, a game system about improvising, and creating a story in a high magic setting with a minimal number of rules, and a heavy focus on player invention. The Keyword mechanic means players can come up with whatever talents and magical disciplines make sense to their characters and not get locked into a small set of pre-designed classes and abilities.
This playtest is still very early in the development of the system, and so this document only has the first section of the manual, and may accidentally have some key information missing. If you have any questions about the system, please get in contact with me by tweeting at @paintedmyth or emailing me via my contact page. I want to hear your input, so I know where the holes are, where there may be any confusion, and how I can improve it.
This first version of the playtest is just about character creation, and the core magic system in Painted Myth, I will be trying to run a few focus sessions with folks to go over the system and improve the core aspects of the game before moving on to the next step of playtesting, which will be giving GMs the tools they need to run games with the system.
If you are interested in trying the Painted Myth playtest manual when it becomes available later this year, a Download link will be available here – watch this space.
